Good stories have the power to bring people together. Jewell Parker Rhodes’ books do just that. My sister, mom, and I listened to the audiobook version of her children’s novel Sugar one summer and it was one of the best books we listened to together.
Jewell Parker Rhodes is the author of numerous books for juvenile, YA, and adult audiences. She tackles subjects from terrorism and unfair religious prejudices to the resilience of a city beat down by storms. I’ve read multiple books from Ms. Rhodes and each one has had a special flair of it’s own. She writes children’s books that are appropriate for small children yet would draw in any adult at the same time. I for one am looking forward to her next book Ghost Boys which deals with police brutality and the history surrounding Emmett Till. She’s never afraid to tackle rough subjects with grace and special storytelling.
